High Desert Gypsies

Based in Bisbee, Arizona, High Desert Gypsies was founded in 2012 in an effort to further explore our vision of Tribal Style Belly Dance. HDG focus on Tribal Fusion, a modern evolution of traditional Belly Dance. Tribal Fusion is a sub-category of American Tribal Style (ATS) Belly Dance, which is based upon synchronized group improvisation. While we have added choreography to our discipline, the group dynamic of the dance draws from the cultural conventions of the tribal people we emulate and appeals to a sense of community. Tribal dance is joyful, strong, grounding and empowering for both the performers and the audience. The diversity of the costumes, movements and music is an ever evolving creative process that provides the opportunity to express an array of cultures from the traditional to the modern, touching on our common experience as members of a global collective.
